Offline POS

A till that keeps selling when the internet is down

Moment of the day: Service

Yes, Digigarson works without internet. When the connection drops, the main till keeps opening tables, taking orders, printing kitchen tickets and accepting payments by any method. Every transaction is written to a local ledger on the computer and, once the internet is back, sent to the server in order and exactly once.

How Digigarson works when the internet goes down

What can you do during an outage?

In offline mode, the main till handles the whole day-to-day workflow:

  • Opening tables and entering orders
  • Printing kitchen tickets on the right printer for each product group
  • Taking payment by cash, credit card, house account and other methods
  • Printing guest receipts

What if the power goes out too?

Every offline transaction is written to the local ledger on the computer the moment it happens. Even if the computer shuts down unexpectedly, nothing is lost; when the till starts again, the ledger picks up where it left off.

Can the same payment be recorded twice?

No. Every transaction has its own ID. Even if the same transaction is sent more than once while the connection flickers, the server records it only once. Records are sent in the order they were made, so the sequence of checks and payments stays intact.

What if someone else changes the table during the outage?

If the same table was changed through another channel (for example the waiter app) while the till was offline, Digigarson detects it when the connection returns and shows it to the cashier. It never silently overwrites anything; the cashier decides.

Do printers work without internet?

Network printers connected by IP address through your router or switch keep printing without internet, because print jobs travel over your local network, not the internet.

Conditions for offline mode

A few rules keep things secure and consistent:

  • The till must have connected to the internet at least once in the last 48 hours. The server gives the till a signed, time-limited permit.
  • Only one main till per branch works offline, so two tills cannot write different records to the same table.
  • If the connection drops while the till is open, it goes offline within about a minute; when the connection returns, it is back online in about half a minute.
  • Quick sales without opening a table (counter sales) are disabled while offline; sales continue through tables.
  • Happy-hour prices are not applied automatically to sales made offline.

Frequently asked questions

Does Digigarson work without internet?

Yes. When the internet is down, the main till opens tables, takes orders, prints kitchen tickets and accepts payments. When the internet returns, transactions are sent automatically and in order.

Does the cashier need to do anything when the internet drops?

No. The till detects the outage itself and shows a small "OFFLINE" badge at the top of the screen. When the connection returns, it goes back online on its own.

Which payment methods can be used offline?

All of them: cash, credit card, house accounts and any other method set up for the branch.

If the power also goes out during an outage, is data lost?

No. Each transaction is written to the local ledger on the computer the moment it happens and is kept through power cuts.

Will a sale be recorded twice when the internet returns?

No. Each transaction has a unique ID, and the server records it only once. There are no double charges.

How many tills can work offline?

One main till per branch. This rule stops two tills from writing to the same table without knowing about each other.

Can the till stay offline for a long time?

Offline mode requires the till to have connected to the internet at least once in the last 48 hours. This is enforced with a time-limited permit issued by the server.

Do the waiter app and QR menu work without internet?

The waiter app and QR menu work through the server; during an outage it is the main till that keeps working offline. When the connection returns, changes are compared and any conflict is shown to the cashier.
